In the wake of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, the Indian film industry is proceeding with caution, distancing itself from partnerships with Pakistani artists. The first significant loss was Abir Gulaal, which was poised to feature Fawad Khan’s highly anticipated return to Bollywood alongside Vaani Kapoor. The film was canceled just days prior to its scheduled release.

Another film facing examination is Sardaar Ji 3, featuring Diljit Dosanjh. The rumors regarding Pakistani actress Hania Aamir’s involvement in the project were validated when the trailer was released on June 23. In the same statement, the producers made it clear that the film would be available exclusively in international markets.

Nonetheless, the decision ignited significant backlash on social media. Numerous internet users criticized both Diljit and the producers for hiring a Pakistani actress during a time of increased tensions between the two countries, particularly after Hania Aamir’s denunciation of India’s counter-operation, Operation Sindoor. Consequently, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has requested a total prohibition on all of Diljit Dosanjh’s future projects.

FWICE President B.N. Tiwari informed Hindustan Times, “By collaborating with a Pakistani actor, Diljit has offended Indian sentiments. He has shown a lack of respect for the nation’s feelings and has insulted the sacrifices made by our courageous soldiers. His choice of Pakistani talent over Indian artists raises significant concerns regarding his loyalty and priorities.”

He continued, “We understand that the film will not be released in India. However, if there are plans for a future release, we will resist it and advocate for a ban. For the time being, the overseas release remains. Nevertheless, Diljit’s partnership with a Pakistani actor is an issue we cannot ignore. We have insisted on a strict ban on all of his forthcoming films, songs, or any other endeavors. The producers of Sardaar Ji 3 are also encompassed in this ban.
